Coaching for women over 50

Weight loss coaching for women over 50.

Built for the body you have now, not the one you had at thirty. Menopause is the default context here, not a disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Why most weight loss coaching for women over 50 fails women over 40

  • Programs designed for 30-year-olds assume a metabolism and a recovery rate you no longer have.
  • Aggressive restriction costs you muscle, which is the one thing you most need to keep.
  • Hours of cardio punish joints that are already telling you something.
  • Nobody accounts for menopause, sleep, or a decade of dieting history.
  • The plan assumes free time that grown children, aging parents and a real job do not leave you.

Why programs built for 30-year-olds stop working

You're not imagining it, and it is not a failure of effort. You have probably been told your hormones are the problem, because that has become the catchall for anyone around menopause. You are not broken. Several things change at once, most programs account for none of them, and what you need is behavior change that works with those normal changes rather than against them.

Muscle mass declines with age unless it is deliberately defended, and muscle is metabolically expensive tissue. An aggressive deficit takes muscle along with fat, which leaves you lighter, weaker and with a body that burns less than it did. That is how a crash diet makes the next attempt harder than the last one.

Sleep changes through the menopause transition, and short sleep makes appetite regulation measurably harder. Recovery takes longer, so the volume of exercise that felt fine at 35 now just makes you tired and sore. And after decades of dieting, most women arrive with a well-practiced all-or-nothing pattern that turns one unplanned meal into an unplanned month.

None of that means weight loss is off the table. It means restriction is the wrong tool, and it has been the tool every time. We do not fight menopause with less food or gimmicks. We work with it: the right food, more of it, and the skill of modifying your diet as your body changes. What worked at 30 will not work at 60, and that is not a problem once you have the skill and the habits to follow through.

What we do differently

The nutrition runs on calorie density rather than restriction. Oil is roughly 4,000 calories per pound and non-starchy vegetables roughly 100, so rebuilding the plate around lower density foods means the volume of food goes up while the calories come down. You're not asked to be hungry, which matters enormously, because hunger is the single best predictor of quitting and nobody stays hungry voluntarily for a decade.

The movement side is about protecting strength, bone density and the muscle you have rather than burning calories. It starts at Rep Zero, building the habit of showing up to a workout at all, and it is scaled to the body you have now: for one client that is strength work three times a week, for another it is walking and mobility while she waits on a hip replacement. Nobody is asked to exercise their way out of their nutrition. The rest of the plan is built around you too. Many clients arrive perimenopausal, in menopause or post-menopausal, often with diabetes, prediabetes, hypothyroidism, PCOS or food allergies, and some are coming off a GLP-1 and worried about the weight coming back. If you cannot have soy, you will not have soy. If your knees have limits, the movements are modified. If you're on medication, your coach works around it, and if something needs your doctor to weigh in, we will tell you.

And the habit work assumes your attention will be somewhere else at some point. Janie is in her seventies and lost more than 40 pounds. Partway through, her husband became seriously ill. Before the program, a hard season meant the couch, snacks and wine. This time the habits held, not because she found extra willpower during the worst months of her life, but because by then they were not running on willpower.

What results look like at this age

Rena was 62 and dealing with post-menopause weight gain. She had said flatly that she could never quit sugar. She lost 24 pounds in 12 weeks and went from binge eating to binge-free, and the second half of that sentence is the one she would lead with.

Molly is in her sixties. She lost 33 pounds in 18 weeks and is in her smallest size in 28 years. Not since college. In nearly three decades of adult life.

Charlene lost 15 pounds in 12 weeks ahead of hip surgery, and what she talks about is breaking an all-or-nothing mindset. Her words were that she finally felt free. For a lot of women that is the actual prize: not thinking about food all day, and having a bad Tuesday followed by an ordinary Wednesday.

Not everybody gets a dream result. That would be a magic pill, and this is behavior change. Clients have had exceptional results, average results and some disappointing ones. Average does not mean nothing happened. It means slightly slower weight loss and slightly slower habit building, and in two years it will not matter whether the weight came off in six months or in eight. When someone does not get results, it is almost always one of two things: she drops off, stops logging in and stops answering her coach, or she will not let herself be coached when she is asked to eat more, bring food when she leaves the house, or make a goal smaller. If life hits hard, a job change or a loss in the family, tell us and we can pause the program or extend it a couple of weeks. Bad weeks, binges, cravings and a scale that stalls or goes up are all normal and planned for, not failure. As long as you do not quit and you have a little humility to be coached, this works.

When we would tell you not to do this

If you want a fast result before an event in three weeks, this is the wrong program. Twelve weeks is a behavior change cycle, chosen deliberately.

If you're not willing to change what your plate is built out of, no coach can help you, and that is better to know now than in week three. If you have had a gastric bypass or a gastric sleeve, we will not take you on. We tried, and the modifications needed meant we could not get predictable, consistent results, and ethically we only work with women we can help. That is one reason the call matters.

A hard season on its own is not a reason to hold off. Janie's husband became seriously ill partway through her program, and her habits held. If life hits hard after you start, the answer is to tell us rather than go quiet, because what we cannot work with is silence. And if we do not think this will work for you, the call is where we will say so, and you leave with more clarity either way.

And if what you need is clinical care rather than coaching, you deserve a clinician. Coaching can sit alongside medical care but it does not replace it.

There is no published price, and the honest reason is simple. Nobody who runs a high-touch, one-on-one, high-support coaching program puts the price on the website, because if people saw a number first, most of them would never show up to the conversation and would never find out whether this solves their problem. It is not cheap, and it is not comparable to an e-book or a gym membership. It is also not the crazy number most people imagine, and for most women it is very doable. The women who work with us are normal working women and retirees with some savings set aside, and most were already paying for dieting in pieces: shakes, challenges, books, apps and memberships they did not use. Doing nothing has a cost too, in diabetes medication, extra health costs as you age, and paying for dieting every single year instead of learning it once. Payment plan options are available, Klarna is one of them, and if it is the right fit we can get creative and normally make it work. The real number, the one specific to you, your situation and what you need, is what is talked about on your call, a 45-minute Zoom call with someone from the LWP team.

Who this is right for

  • You're over 50 and what used to work does nothing now.
  • You're dealing with menopause or post-menopause weight gain.
  • You want to protect strength and mobility, not just see a smaller number.
  • You have a long history of losing and regaining the same weight.
  • You want something you can still be doing in five years.

Frequently asked questions

Does weight loss coaching work for women over 50?

Probably, yes. Most clients here are in their forties, fifties and sixties, some are in their seventies and one is in her eighties, and many arrive perimenopausal, in menopause or post-menopausal, often with a condition like diabetes, prediabetes, hypothyroidism or PCOS. The program is designed around that stage of life rather than adapted to it afterward. The one exception: we do not work with women who have had a gastric bypass or a gastric sleeve.

Can you lose weight during and after menopause?

Yes, but restriction is a poor tool for it, and your hormones are not proof that you are broken. We do not fight menopause with less food or gimmicks. We work with it: the right food, more of it, and the skill of modifying your diet as your body changes. Eating a larger volume of lower calorie density food while deliberately protecting muscle works better than cutting portions and adding cardio.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

The average client loses around 18 pounds in 12 weeks, and that is an average, not a promise. Some clients do better and some go slower, and slower still means the weight is moving and the habits are building. Your genuine goal, not just the one you think is attainable, is one of the first things talked about on your call.

Do I need to do a lot of exercise?

No. Movement starts at Rep Zero, building the habit of showing up at all, and is scaled to what your body can currently do, with modified movements if your knees or hips need them. The emphasis is on protecting strength and bone density rather than burning calories. Nobody is asked to exercise their way out of their nutrition.

I have tried dozens of diets. Why would this be different?

Because a long diet history is evidence about the programs rather than about you. Restriction-based approaches have a terrible retention rate, since nobody stays hungry voluntarily. Removing hunger from the equation is what changes the outcome.

What does it cost?

There is no published price, because a number seen first stops most women from ever having the conversation that shows them whether this solves their problem. It is not cheap, and it is also not the crazy number most people imagine. Many of the women who work with us are retirees with some savings set aside or women working a normal job, and they invest up front to learn this once instead of paying for dieting every single year. Payment plans are available, including Klarna, and your real number is talked about on your call.
