Should I Join Lean With Plants? How to Decide (From the Team That Runs It)

It comes down to three things you can answer before you book a call, and this article helps you answer them without being talked into anything.

It depends on three things, and you can answer all three before you ever book a call. Lean With Plants is a 12-week one-on-one plant-based weight loss coaching program for women founded by Chelsea Mae Cullen. The team has coached over 3,000 women and the average client loses around 18 pounds in 12 weeks. You should join if you already know what to do and cannot do it consistently, if you are willing to eat plant-based most of the time, and if you want a real person checking on you every day. If any one of those is a no, you probably should not, and this article is written to help you work that out rather than to talk you into anything.

If you landed here from a forum thread asking "should I join Lean With Plants," nobody in that thread has seen your application. We have read thousands. Here is how we would answer if you asked us directly.

Who should join Lean With Plants?

After 3,000 women the pattern is clear. The women who get the most out of the program look like this:

  • You are 40 or older. Most clients are in their forties, fifties and sixties. Some are in their seventies, and one client is in her eighties. The program is built around perimenopause, menopause, joint pain, a slower metabolism and a full life, not around a 28-year-old with two free hours a day. More in who Lean With Plants is for.
  • You are already plant-based, or moving that way. Many clients have been vegan or vegetarian for years and are still stuck. Others eat some meat and want to eat less of it. Both work. You do not have to be fully vegan, but the food is plant-based and that part is not negotiable.
  • You have tried a lot of programs. Beth had tried more than 40 diets before she joined. A long dieting history is not a reason to doubt yourself. It is evidence that you have been handed the wrong tool, over and over.
  • You need accountability, not information. This is the big one. If you can recite what you should be eating and still cannot do it on a Tuesday night in November, you do not have a knowledge problem. Sam already knew all the information and lost close to 70 pounds once she had real accountability. That gap between knowing and doing is what coaching closes.

If that is you on all four, you are the core case for this program, not the exception.

Who should not join Lean With Plants?

This is the section most program pages skip.

Do not join if:

  • You want a quick fix. Twelve weeks is the cycle, on purpose. If you need weight off in three weeks for an event, this is the wrong door and there are plenty of other doors.
  • You want to keep eating the same way. There is no version of this where your food stays the same. The whole mechanism is a shift in what your plate is built out of.
  • You eat carnivore or keto. Lean With Plants is a vegan company and the method is built on plant-based eating. It will not work for you, and we will say so on the call.
  • You have had a gastric bypass or gastric sleeve. We do not work with women who have had either, because we could not get predictable, consistent results with the modifications needed.
  • You want a cheap app. This is high-touch one-on-one coaching. It is not comparable to an app, a book or a gym membership, and it is not priced like one.
  • You are not willing to be coached. Your coach will ask you to eat more food, to bring food with you when you leave the house, or to make a goal smaller so you can actually hit it. If you already know you will refuse that kind of feedback, save your money.
  • You would have to borrow money you cannot comfortably repay. This is for women who have the money set aside, usually because they have been paying for dieting in pieces for years. Payment plan options exist; debt you cannot carry is not one of them.

What are you actually paying for?

Not a PDF. Not a meal plan. Not a login to a video library you will open twice.

You are paying for four things, and the first one is most of the value:

  1. A dedicated coach. A real person, not a bot, not a group chat with 200 women in it. She sees the photos of what you eat and coaches you until you can build a weight-loss-optimized plate anywhere: a restaurant, a hotel, your mother's kitchen. The coaching page describes the day to day.
  2. Daily messaging. Your coach checks in and messages you every day in the LWP app. The point is not surveillance. The point is that a check-in exists, so the distance between knowing and doing shrinks a little every single day.
  3. The habit system. The STACK Method builds three or four tiny daily habits, about two minutes each, until they run without you thinking about them. This is the part that makes week thirteen look like week twelve.
  4. The nutrition method. Calorie density. Oil is roughly 4,000 calories per pound and non-starchy vegetables are roughly 100, about a 40x difference. Your stomach measures volume and weight, not calories, so you eat a large plate and still lose weight. Nothing is counted or weighed.

Around those four sit a weekly community group coaching call with the LWP coaches, a Q&A every two weeks with Chelsea or Ami on leanness literacy, and the recipes, workouts and community inside the LWP app. All calls are recorded.

What happens on the call, and is it pressure?

The call is a free, 45-minute Zoom call with someone from the LWP team. It is a sales call, and we say so, because pretending otherwise would be a strange way to start a relationship that depends on you trusting your coach.

Here is what "sales call" means in practice. The conversation covers four things: where you are today, what caused the weight gain, what your real goal is, and how to bridge the gap. Price is discussed on the call, because the call is the only place we discuss it. Expect to be asked for a decision on the call as well. We say that here so it is never a surprise.

Then one of two things happens. If it is a fit and you both say yes, you are set up straight away. If we do not think it will work for you, we tell you. That is the whole extent of the pressure.

What it is not: a scripted pitch, a countdown timer, or a stranger promising that your life is about to change. The whole thing, start to finish, is in what happens on a Lean With Plants strategy call. Before the call, the team texts and emails a lot. Reply YES so they know you are coming.

What do people worry about before joining?

Four worries show up on nearly every application and in every forum thread about us. Here is each one.

"The price is not on the site." Correct, and it is deliberate. Nobody running high-touch one-on-one coaching publishes a price, because people who see a number first rarely show up to the conversation, and the conversation is where you find out whether this solves your problem. It is not cheap. It is also not the number most women imagine, and payment plan options exist. The full reasoning is in how much does Lean With Plants cost.

"Does it work after 50?" Most of our clients are over 50. Rena was 62 and post-menopause. She had said she could never quit sugar, then lost 24 pounds in 12 weeks and went from binge eating to binge-free. Molly, in her sixties, lost 33 pounds in 18 weeks and is at her smallest size in 28 years. Janie, in her seventies, lost more than 40 pounds. This is the core audience, not a stretch case.

"Are the coaches real, and is Chelsea involved?" The coaches are named, with their backgrounds, on the coaches page. Your dedicated coach messages you daily. Ami-James Deane leads the coaching team, and Chelsea or Ami runs the Q&A every two weeks. Chelsea is not your daily coach, and we do not pretend otherwise. If you read about volunteer mentors or a cheap membership in an old forum post, that was an earlier product; the program today is 12-week one-on-one coaching.

"What if I fail again?" Most of the women who get the best results here wrote exactly that on their application. When the program does not work, it is almost always ghosting (dropping off, not answering) or not letting yourself be coached. Bad weeks, binges and a scale that goes up are normal and planned for. If life hits hard, a job change or a bereavement, the program can be paused or extended if you tell us. You cannot fail this by having a bad week. You can only fail it by disappearing.

The decision checklist

Join if... Do not join if...
You know what to eat and cannot do it consistently You want more information, not accountability
You are willing to eat plant-based 80 to 90% of the time You eat carnivore or keto, or want your food to stay the same
You want a real person checking on you every day You want to be left alone with an app or a PDF
You are 40 or older and have tried many programs You want weight off in three weeks for an event
You are willing to be coached, including on things you disagree with You already know you will not take feedback
You can commit to a 12-week cycle You have had a gastric bypass or gastric sleeve

If the left column is mostly you, book the call. If the right column is mostly you, do not, and there is nothing wrong with that answer.

What results should you realistically expect?

The average client loses around 18 pounds in 12 weeks. That is an average across everyone we coach, not a handpicked few, and it includes exceptional results, ordinary results and some disappointing ones. Average does not mean nothing happened. It means slightly slower weight loss and slightly slower habit building.

Week by week is laid out in the results timeline, but broadly: the first two weeks are work, because you are learning a new way to build a plate and your coach is correcting it daily. Movement starts at Rep Zero, building the habit of showing up before worrying about strength. By the back half of the program the habits start running on their own.

Expect the weight loss to be the second most important result. The first is that you are no longer white-knuckling it. You are eating more food by volume than before, so nothing is running on willpower, and that is why it holds. Does Lean With Plants work goes deeper into what "works" means.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lean With Plants worth the money? For the women it is built for, yes: women over 40 who know what to do, cannot do it alone, and are willing to eat mostly plants. For women who want an app or a quick fix, no. We wrote a longer answer in is Lean With Plants worth it.

Do I have to be vegan? No. Lean With Plants is a vegan company, but 80 to 90% plant-based works, and families who are not plant-based are normal (component meals solve most of it). Carnivore and keto do not work with the method. See do you have to be vegan.

Is the call high pressure? It is a sales call and we say so. It covers your situation and your goal, price is discussed, and if it is a fit you start straight away. If it is not a fit, we tell you. That is the extent of it.

What if I have failed every diet? Then you are in the majority of our clients. Beth had tried more than 40 diets. Tracy lost 20 pounds in 12 weeks after a lifetime of yo-yo dieting. A long history of restriction-based diets failing is a fact about those diets, not a fact about you.

How long is it? Twelve weeks, one-on-one. If life hits hard during that time, the program can be paused or extended if you tell us.

Can I do it myself for free instead? Yes, and some women do. The blog is free, calorie density is explained there in full, and the free live training is open to anyone. The women who cannot do it alone are the ones who already have all of that information and still are not losing weight. If that is you, the missing piece is accountability, and that is the one part you cannot download. See Lean With Plants vs doing it yourself.

Still not sure? Bring the question to the call

You do not have to decide from a blog post. That is what the 45 minutes are for.

If you are 40 or older, willing to eat mostly plants, and tired of knowing what to do without doing it, apply here and book a free strategy call with someone from the team. Bring the "should I join" question with you. If it is a fit, you will start straight away. If it is not, we will tell you, and you will leave with a clearer picture of what you actually need.

Still deciding? Read what the call is actually like.
