Lean With Plants vs BODi (formerly Beachbody)

One is a home workout library you follow on your own. The other is a coach who builds the plan around your life.

BODi (formerly Beachbody) is a fitness streaming subscription: a large library of home workout programs, plus its own nutrition products and meal-planning frameworks, that you follow on your own. Lean With Plants is a 12-week one-on-one plant-based weight loss coaching program for women, founded by Chelsea Mae Cullen. The difference in one line: BODi gives you workouts and leaves the eating and the follow-through to you, while Lean With Plants gives you a dedicated coach who builds your food and your habits around your actual life.

Short answer: Pick BODi if you want a huge home workout library and you are confident managing your own nutrition. Pick Lean With Plants if you are a woman who is eating plant-based (or wants to be), has followed plenty of programs already, and keeps falling off in week three.

What BODi actually is

It helps to be accurate about the model, because it has changed.

Beachbody built its name on home fitness programs sold on DVD, including P90X, Insanity and 21 Day Fix. It moved to streaming, and in March 2023 the company rebranded to BODi.

What you get today is broadly:

  • A streaming workout library. Hundreds of hours of structured training programs with day-by-day calendars, run by professional trainers.
  • Nutrition products. Shakeology shakes, supplements and performance products.
  • Meal-planning frameworks. Portion-control container systems and mindset-based eating programs that you apply yourself.
  • Community and challenge groups. Peer motivation, often organized around a start date.

One more structural fact that matters if you remember the old days: BODi ran for years on a multi-level marketing model, where the "coach" who signed you up was usually another customer earning commission on what you bought. In October 2024 the company announced it was eliminating that model and moving to a single-level affiliate program, with the change taking effect from 1 November 2024 and the old structure fully retired at the start of 2025.

That is a meaningful improvement for buyers. It also means the word "coach" in the BODi world has never described what it describes at Lean With Plants. It described a seller, and now it describes an affiliate.

The real strengths of BODi

I am not going to pretend this is a bad product. It is not.

  • The training is legitimately good. The programs are properly periodized, the trainers know what they are doing, and the production quality is high.
  • It is enormously convenient. No commute, no gym, no equipment in some programs, press play at 5am.
  • Variety solves boredom. If you get bored easily, a library beats a single plan.
  • It is inexpensive compared to any form of human coaching. That is a genuine advantage and it should be said plainly.
  • Some people genuinely thrive on group challenge energy. If a start date and a leaderboard light you up, that is a real mechanism and it works.

BODi is the better choice if: you want structured home workouts, you are self-directed about food, you like following a calendar, and your main gap is movement rather than eating.

Where women tend to get stuck with it

The most common thing I hear from women who come to us after a few rounds of home workout programs is some version of: "I did every workout and the scale did not move."

That is not a discipline problem. It is a design problem. A workout library is built to solve training. Weight loss is mostly solved at the end of a fork.

Three specific gaps show up again and again:

  1. The nutrition is generic and self-managed. A container system or a portion framework is the same for everyone. It does not know that you are plant-based, that your evenings are the problem, or that your "healthy" salad has three hundred calories of dressing on it.
  2. Nobody notices when you stop. A subscription does not call you. It does not care if you log in. The single biggest predictor of whether a woman finishes something is whether a specific human being is expecting her.
  3. Plant-based eating is not the design centre. There are vegan-friendly options, but the model was not built around the problem most of our clients arrive with, which is being plant-based already and still stuck. That is usually about calorie density, not about willpower, and it needs someone who can look at your actual week.

If you are eating whole food plant-based and the weight is not moving, the culprit is very often the oil, nuts and dressings hiding in the "healthy" food, and no workout calendar is going to surface that for you.

What Lean With Plants does differently

Lean With Plants is built on three pillars: nutrition based on calorie density, fitness and movement, and accountability and habits (what we call the STACK Method). You can read the full breakdown on the method page.

The nutrition idea is simple enough to explain in a paragraph. Calorie density is how many calories are packed into a pound of food. Oil sits at roughly 4,000 calories per pound. Non-starchy vegetables sit at roughly 100. That is about a fortyfold difference. Shift the balance of your plate toward the low end and you eat more food, by physical volume, feel full, and lose weight without counting anything. That is why our clients often say they are eating bigger meals and still getting leaner.

The other half is the part a subscription cannot do. You get a coach. She knows your name, your calendar, the week your daughter is visiting, and the fact that 9pm is your hard time. She adjusts. When you go quiet, she notices. The team has coached over 3,000 women this way, and the average client loses around 18 pounds in 12 weeks.

A real example

Kelsey lost 15 pounds in 12 weeks with us, and she now does 15 or more pull-ups. She is proof that the fitness side matters, and also that fitness alone was never the thing that was missing.

That is the honest relationship between these two options. Training is valuable. It was just never the bottleneck for most of the women who come to us.

You can read more results on our success stories page.

"But BODi is so much cheaper"

Yes. It is a subscription product sold at subscription scale, and its prices are published on its site. One-on-one coaching costs more than software, because a human being's time is involved.

We do not publish a Lean With Plants number, and I would rather explain why than dodge it. Nobody running a high-touch, one-on-one coaching program does, because if people saw a number first, most would never have the conversation that shows them whether it solves their problem. It is not cheap, and it is also not the crazy number most people imagine. We partner with Klarna and Affirm for payment plans, and the real number, the one specific to you, your situation and what you need, is talked about on your call. There is a fuller explanation in how much Lean With Plants costs.

The comparison that actually matters is not this program against one subscription. It is against the running total of the last decade: the apps, the challenge packs, the supplements, the regain, the starting over every January. Most women reading this have already spent more than they think on things that did not hold.

Can you do both?

Yes, and plenty of clients effectively do. Nothing about Lean With Plants requires you to cancel a workout subscription you enjoy. If pressing play on a trainer-led workout is what gets you moving, keep it. We will build the food and the habits around it.

The mistake is expecting the workout library to do the nutrition job. It was never built for that.

Frequently asked questions

Is BODi the same thing as Beachbody? Yes. The Beachbody Company rebranded to BODi in March 2023. The flagship programs people remember, like P90X and 21 Day Fix, are part of the streaming library.

Is BODi still a multi-level marketing company? No. In October 2024 the company announced it was ending its multi-level marketing structure and moving to a single-level affiliate model, effective from November 2024 and fully complete at the start of 2025.

Do I have to do workouts in Lean With Plants? Fitness and movement is one of the three pillars, but the program is nutrition-led and the movement piece is built to fit your body and your starting point. Some clients come in already training hard. Others start with walking. You can read about what the 12 weeks look like.

Do I have to be vegan to join Lean With Plants? No. Most clients arrive somewhere on the way there. We have a full answer in do you have to be vegan for Lean With Plants.

Which one is better if my problem is that I keep quitting? One-on-one coaching, almost always. Quitting in week three is not a content problem, and more content will not fix it. That is the case for why accountability is the missing piece.

Where to go from here

If you want a workout library and you are happy steering your own nutrition, BODi is a reasonable, well-made choice and you do not need us.

If you are a woman who has already followed the programs, already knows roughly what to eat, and is tired of doing it alone, that is exactly who Lean With Plants is built for.
