Lean With Plants vs Weight Watchers (WW)
One is a subscription tracking system with group support. The other is 12 weeks of one-on-one coaching.
Lean With Plants and WeightWatchers solve different problems. WeightWatchers (WW) is a long-running subscription program built around its Points system, an app, and coach-led group workshops, and it works with any style of eating. Lean With Plants is a 12-week one-on-one plant-based weight loss coaching program for women, founded by Chelsea Mae Cullen, where you work with a dedicated coach and stop tracking food altogether. If you want a flexible, low-commitment system you can run yourself, WW is the better fit. If you have already tried tracking and it did not hold, one-on-one coaching is the honest answer.
How WeightWatchers works
WW has been running since 1963, which makes it the most tested consumer weight loss program in existence. The model today looks like this:
- A personalized Points Budget. Every food gets a Points value. Sugar and saturated fat push it up, protein and fiber pull it down. You get a daily budget based on your body and your goal, and it adjusts over time.
- ZeroPoint foods. A list of foods you do not track at all, which quietly nudges you toward produce and lean protein.
- No banned foods. Pizza has a number. Wine has a number. You decide how to spend.
- Workshops. Coach-led group sessions, virtual and in person at Studios, plus coach messaging in the app.
- Tiered memberships. Separate levels for core tracking, menopause, diabetes support, and for members using GLP-1 medications, where a care team of clinicians and registered dietitians is included.
That last point deserves credit. WW is one of the few consumer programs with a real clinical pathway for women on weight loss medication. Lean With Plants does not prescribe or manage medication, and we are not trying to. If medication access bundled with behavior support is what you want, WW is a legitimate answer and we would say so on a call.
How Lean With Plants works
Lean With Plants is a 12-week coaching program for women built on three pillars:
- Nutrition, using calorie density. Not points, not macros, not an app that scores your dinner. The concept is how many calories are packed into a pound of food. Oil is roughly 4,000 calories per pound. Non-starchy vegetables are roughly 100 calories per pound. That is about a 40x difference, and it is the entire reason our clients eat more food by volume and still lose weight. We break this down in calorie density explained.
- Fitness and movement, scaled to a real body with a real schedule, not a program built for a 25 year old.
- Accountability and habits, through the STACK Method, which is the part that decides whether week 13 looks like week 12 or like every January you have ever had.
You get a dedicated coach who checks in and messages you daily in the LWP app, looks at photos of your plate and coaches you through the week, plus a weekly community group coaching call and a Q&A every two weeks. You can see the full structure on the how it works page.
We have coached over 3,000 women. The average client loses around 18 pounds in 12 weeks. Most are in their forties, fifties and sixties, and some are in their seventies.

The real difference: tracking versus changing what is on the plate
This is the axis that actually matters, and it is worth being precise about.
WW manages your intake by measuring it. Every food has a number, you have a budget, and the discipline is in the logging. When the logging is happening, it works. It has worked for millions of people.
Lean With Plants manages your intake by changing the composition of the plate so that measuring becomes unnecessary. If the food on your plate averages a few hundred calories per pound instead of a few thousand, you can eat until you are genuinely full and the math takes care of itself. That is not a mindset trick. It is a property of the food.
Neither is morally superior. But they fail differently, and knowing how each one fails is how you pick.
Tracking fails when life gets loud. A sick parent, a work crisis, a week where you just do not want to open the app. The system depends on an input you stop providing, so it stops working.
Calorie density fails when nobody teaches you the exceptions. This is the trap we see constantly: women already eating plant-based, eating what everyone agrees is a healthy diet, and not losing a pound. Almost always the culprit is the calorie-dense "healthy" stuff, meaning oil, nuts, nut butters, dressings and vegan convenience food. We cover it in healthy vegan food and oil keeping you stuck and why some vegans gain weight.
WW's Points system can technically catch that problem, but it catches it as a number, not as an explanation. A coach catches it as an explanation.
Who each one is best for
WeightWatchers is the better choice if you:
- Want to keep eating the way you already eat, including meat and dairy, with no dietary change required
- Actually like tracking, and find the number satisfying rather than draining
- Want the lowest-commitment way to start, today, without an application or a conversation
- Want in-person or group community, which WW does at a scale no coaching program can match
- Want weight loss medication and behavior support bundled through one provider
- Have never had structured support before and want a well-tested on-ramp
Lean With Plants is the better choice if you:
- Are already plant-based, vegan, or heading that way, and are not losing weight despite eating well
- Have tracked before, more than once, and the results did not survive the moment you stopped
- Are in your forties, fifties or sixties and your body stopped responding to what used to work. See plant-based weight loss for women over 50
- Want one person who knows your name, your history and your week, rather than a group room
- Want a defined finish line and a specific outcome rather than an indefinite subscription
- Know what to do and do not do it, which is a different problem from not knowing
That last one is the most common thing we hear on strategy calls. Sam lost close to 70 pounds with us, and she will tell you plainly that she already knew the information. She could not implement it until she had accountability. That gap is what one-on-one coaching is for, and it is not a gap a group workshop or an app is designed to close.
"But I lost weight on WW before"
A lot of women who apply to Lean With Plants have. Often more than once.
We are not going to pretend that did not happen. WW works while you work it, and that is a real result. The question is not whether you lost the weight. It is what happened in month eight.
For most women the honest answer is that the tracking stopped, nothing structural had changed underneath it, and the weight came back. That is not a discipline failure. It is a design outcome. A system that depends on daily logging forever eventually runs into a life that does not allow it.
What we build instead is a plate and a routine that hold up without your attention. That is the point of the STACK Method: small behaviors stacked until the routine runs on autopilot. Beth had tried more than 40 diets before she found us. The number of diets was never the issue. The absence of anything that survived a bad week was. The longer version of that argument is in Lean With Plants vs doing it on your own.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lean With Plants basically Weight Watchers for vegans? No. WW is a tracking system with a points budget, and it works with any diet. Lean With Plants is one-on-one coaching built on calorie density, and there is no tracking, no points and no weighing. The overlap is that both are structured approaches to weight loss for adults. The mechanics are not similar.
Can I do WW and Lean With Plants at the same time? You can, but most clients stop tracking within the first couple of weeks because they no longer need it. If keeping the app open gives you comfort in the transition, your coach will not fight you on it. The goal by week 12 is that you do not need either.
Does Lean With Plants work if I do not want to go fully vegan? Yes. You do not have to be vegan to join, and we do not require an all-or-nothing switch. The nutrition work is about shifting the density of what is on your plate. We cover this properly in do you have to be vegan to join Lean With Plants.
Which one is cheaper? WW is a monthly subscription and publishes its rates, so you can check them directly. Lean With Plants does not publish a price. Nobody running a high-touch, one-on-one coaching program does, because if people saw a number first, most would never have the conversation that shows them whether it solves their problem. It is not cheap, and it is not comparable to a Weight Watchers membership, because you are learning a skill that lasts rather than renting a system. It is also not the crazy number most people imagine. We partner with Klarna and Affirm for payment plans, and the real number, the one specific to you, your situation and what you need, is talked about on your call. We explain the reasoning in how much Lean With Plants costs.
I am on a GLP-1 medication. Can I still join Lean With Plants? Yes. Some of our clients are coming off a GLP-1 when they join, understandably worried about gaining the weight back, and if you are on medication, your coach works around it. We do not prescribe or manage medication, and those decisions stay between you and your doctor. What we coach is the food quality and habit side, which matters a great deal on medication. See Lean With Plants vs Ozempic and GLP-1 medications.
How to decide
If you want a flexible, self-directed system with group support and an app you can start using tonight, WeightWatchers is a good program and you should go use it. That is a genuine recommendation, not a polite one.
If you have already done the tracking, more than once, and you are tired of losing weight and then watching it come back, the structure is the thing to change. That is what the coaching program is built for.
You can apply here and book a free strategy call. Someone from the LWP team will walk through where you are, what you have already tried, and whether this is actually the right fit. Sometimes the answer is no, and we will say so.
